Candriam and LUMSA University Forge a Path Towards a Sustainable Future

25.06.2024

Candriam and LUMSA are expanding their partnership to equip students with sustainable investment skills through the Candriam Academy.

As the world faces environmental challenges, demand for sustainable investment solutions is surging. To address this critical need, Candriam is extending its long-standing partnership with Milan's LUMSA University to train the next generation of sustainability professionals and foster a global mindset committed to positive change.

As part of this expanded partnership, Candriam will support the Master in Management of Sustainable Development Goals (MSDG) of LUMSA Master School with a dedicated educational offering provided by the Candriam Academy. The latest development gives students enrolled in the MSDG programme exclusive access to six key courses[1] on the Candriam Academy platform.

This expanded collaboration comes as environmental, social and governance (ESG) investing continues to grow despite polarised sentiment and macro-geopolitical challenges. According to Bloomberg Intelligence[2], global ESG assets are expected to reach $40 trillion by 2030 - more than 25% of the total asset management market - as analysts anticipate increased scrutiny and regulation to bolster the credibility of ESG investments.

As interest in sustainable investments surges, it is imperative to invest in educational initiatives like those offered by LUMSA. Our commitment to fostering partnerships with leading universities reflects our dedication to realising the UN Agenda 2030 goals[3] (...) We will continue our efforts in the future to promote the transition to a truly sustainable world.
Matthieu David Branch General Manager - Italy at Candriam

The Candriam Academy platform will provide MSDG participants with a comprehensive understanding of the circular economy, the urgency of addressing climate change, and the impact of Engagement. Students will also explore the intricacies of ESG assessment for companies and examine government sustainability frameworks for countries.

Creating long-term value

Launched in 2016 with the support of Candriam, the Master in Management of Sustainable Development Goals has gained international recognition with endorsements from prestigious bodies such as the Holy See, the United Nations, the World Bank and the ENI Enrico Mattei Foundation. Combining face-to-face and online teaching, the programme facilitates a holistic approach to the challenges of sustainable development.

The relationship between Candriam and the LUMSA Master School was further strengthened in 2021 to include support for the new Sustainable Executive Masters programs, to equip participants with the skills needed to drive their companies' transition to sustainability. These progammes have since gone on to develop a community of nearly 100 sustainability managers from 45 countries, as well as 80 graduates of the Sustainable Executive Masters.

Giovanni Ferri, Director of the MSDG Master and Sustainable Executive Masters at LUMSA Master School, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the university's role in cultivating a community of change-makers.

This vision of integral responsibility multiplies the determination to instigate change with a human face with a footprint of social solidarity and respect for the environment in line with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
We are very grateful to Candriam for supporting and accompanying us on this path and very proud to walk it together in a perspective of long-term value creation.
Giovanni Ferri Director of the MSDG Master and Sustainable Executive Masters at LUMSA Master School

With the growing demand for sustainable solutions, partnerships like Candriam and LUMSA are empowering the next generation of leaders to build a more resilient and sustainable future. This collaboration equips students with the knowledge and skills to become changemakers in the field of sustainable investing, paving the way for a future where environmental and social responsibility go hand in hand with financial success.
